1st Math Lesson

Today was the first day of Preschool for Evan (at home of course). He was sooooo excited for his first math lesson. We are using Saxon Math K (as recommended by my friend, Melissa, who has used this with her son). During this school year we will be learning concepts such as: counting by 1's, 5's, and 10's, acting out problems, finding answers for addition and subtraction stories using manipulatives (pictured below), comparing and ordering numbers, identifying common shapes, covering and reproducing designs, measuring and comparing objectives, identifying halves, and creating and reading graphs.

Lesson: There are 2 parts per lesson (Meeting & Lesson).
Meeting- answering questions about the calendar, practice counting, patterning, telling
time and estimation.
Lesson- learn a new increment or skill

The lesson was only about 20 minutes. Evan LOVED it!!
We won't begin a full curriculum until next year but we will be doing many things this year to improve his readiness skills.
In addition, I am currently reading the book "Teaching the Trivium: Christian Homeschooling in a Classical Style" since this is the style we will be using.
